Effects of Bill:

This bill being passed means that:

Harsher penalties for non-compliance with safety standards

Non Emerg Ambulances will now be subject to Snap Audits AKA Unannounced Inspections of vehicles when on road, typically at hospital entrances and EDs. They will be checked to see if they are fit for purpose, not out of date, and carrying safety equipment (like power lift stretchers).

Renewal of licencing to be a Non Emerg Patient Transport provider will be subject to meeting safety standards, as well as appropriate clinical governance arrangements being in place.

The use of the term “paramedic” in business names, descriptions, or on any vehicles used to provide non-emergency patient transport services or first aid services will be banned.
