Effects of Bill:

This bill being passed means that:

The following can now be declared as Designated Areas for PSOs to be deployed: sports fields, parts of the public transport network, roads and walkways used for going in and out of Designated Areas, areas around sports venues and arenas, or any big area including the whole Melbourne CBD

Whenever a State of Emergency or State of Disaster is declared, PSOs can be deployed to the area affected - the whole state or parts of it

Powers of a PSO when on duty are as specified by the relevant Act or as delegated to a PSO by the Chief Commissioner of Police

The Victoria Police Act is updated because it refers to the Workplace Relations Act instead of the Competition and Consumer Act definition of what a trade union is - this is in relation to information disclosure. It means if someone goes to a trade union for help, the union is allowed to be told what is going on. It is not a change, just fixing a broken link

Fees can be charged for having to deploy PSOs under the Victoria Police Act 2013 (previously only allowed charging fees for deploying police)

Someone who is being held in a police gaol at a police station can be transferred to the main police station interview rooms for questioning

Temporarily - on a 2 year trial basis - Sheriffs can now serve Family Violence Intervention Order paperwork on people - The Sheriff has the power to enter the premises where they reasonably believe the person to be, they may not use force enter premises; The sheriff can request a person to state their name and normal address if they believe they are the person they need to serve papers to; The sheriff then needs to fill out a certificate saying they served the papers, or a Certificate of Inability if they did not find the person or could not get to them.

A punctutation error and two numbering fixes (same number is used twice in a row) in the Family Violence Protection Act will be fixed

The addresses for 4 Fire Stations to be moved from the CFA to the new Fire Rescue Victoria are updated

New maps will be lodged to specify the Fire Rescue Victoria fire district, including 38 stations which were previously CFA stations
