Effects of Bill:
This bill being passed means that:
People or organisations whose negligent conduct causes the death of an employee or member of the public can now be charged with the new offence of Workplace Manslaughter
There is now a new Workplace Incidents Consultative Committee which will consult with persons affected by negligence (by death or serious injury) and report to the Minister at the end of each year
Workplace Manslaughter is exempt from a 2 year limitation period on the investigation of these offences
Employees themselves, including the employee responsible for the death, are exempt from prosecution
