Effects of Bill:

This bill being passed means that:

Penalties especially fines for taking water without the right to do so will increase significantly;

recommendations of the Murray Darling Basin Plan will be implemented so more water is released for the environment as opposed to industry;

Aboriginal bodies will have greater input into water policy and usage and management of water sources;

Public Dams can be required to be made safe similar to rules for private dams
