Effects of Bill:
This bill being passed means that:
There are now new offences of carjacking and aggravated carjacking, with 15 and 25 years maximum imprisonment sentences;
There is now a new statutory minimum non-parole term of imprisonment of 3 years for adults for a conviction of carjacking and 5 years for adults for a conviction of aggravated carjacking. NB Carjacking was previously prosecuted under theft and abduction.
