This bill being passed means that:
It will now be illegal to create or distribute deepfake content that depicts a person in a sexually explicit or invasive manner without their consent. maximum penalties include up to 4 years imprisonment or fines of up to $40,000, especially if the victim is under 17
Invasive depictions include images where a person is portrayed in a state of undress, engaged in private acts (e.g., sexual acts), or in other compromising situations.
There are certain exceptions, such as when the creation or distribution of content occurs with the consent of the person involved. Additionally, law enforcement and legal practitioners acting within the scope of their duties are exempt from these offences
Threatening to distribute deepfake content without consent is also criminalized
