Families of Donors Can Talk About Organ Donation but Hospitals, Healthcare Workers Must Still Respect Privacy
Transplantation and Anatomy (Disclosure of Information and Delegation) Amendment

Law
Effects of Bill:
This bill being passed means that:
Families of deceased donors can publicly share information about their loved one’s donation or transplant. This change addresses concerns that families might be prosecuted for speaking about the donation process when honoring or remembering their relatives, especially during events aimed at raising awareness.
While families can now speak freely, the bill maintains that healthcare workers and organizations (e.g., hospitals, medical professionals) must continue to protect the privacy and confidentiality of deceased donors and recipients. This includes anyone involved in the donation or transplantation process, ensuring that only those directly related to the donor can share details.
Some decision-making authority previously held by the Health Minister can now be passed on to lower-level officials.
If the donor or recipient is a child, the bill ensures that parents or guardians must give consent before any personal information is shared publicly.
