Equal Opportunity Commisioner Not Allowed To Investigate While Police Are Prosecuting Related Matters

Equal Opportunity (Parliament) Amendment Bill 2020

1st House

2nd House

Law

Effects of Bill:

This bill being passed means that:

The Equal Opportunity Commissioner may not investigate something which is also being investigated by the police, if they become aware that police charges have been or are about to be laid, until the matter has been settled by police (charges dropped, court process completed etc).

There are also changes to "section 93AA—Manner of dealing with complaints of sexual harassment by judicial officers and members of Parliament" which are not explained in the text of the bill, this will require some research to confirm what these changes actually do. TODO
