Effects of Bill:
This bill being passed means that:
The Board previously had 16 members but under these new rules will have between 10 and 14 including a preschool, primary, secondary teacher; a lawyer; and a parent to represent community interest
A teacher who is charged with specific criminal offences (such as against children) can have their teaching registration immediately suspended while the court case is in progress
Members of the board are appointed by the Minister for Education (instead of the Governor of South Australia)
The requirement that half the board be teachers appears to be removed, and replaced with a requirement for one primary, one preschool and one secondary teacher
The TRB may publish or adopt codes of conduct and professional standards; they have to be published on the website AND available to look at in their office or somewhere they like that (the TRB gets to choose where)
The TRB may recognise teachers\' training levels and achievements in teaching and educational leadership, and publish this on their website
The registrar who manages teaching registration must notify teachers in writing if their working with children check is more than five years old and their registration is expiring as a result
