Effects of this bill
If this bill passes, it means that:
Health services and the Secretary can collect and share patient health information without patient consent.
Authorised health service staff can use the Electronic Patient Health Information Sharing System to provide medical treatment.
Criminal offence for people to access patient health information in the system without authorisation.
Criminal offence for authorised users to access the system for reasons other than those allowed by law.
Authorised users cannot use or disclose patient health information unless the law allows it.
The Freedom of Information Act does not apply to the system or documents given to the Secretary for the system.
Certain health privacy principles and records laws no longer apply to how the Secretary collects and holds information in the system.
