Effects of this bill
If this bill passes, it means that:
People cannot discriminate based on homelessness, physical appearance, or expunged homosexual convictions.
People cannot harass others or create hostile work environments based on sex.
Public acts of vilification based on race, religion, or gender identity are banned.
People can now wait up to two years to file a complaint.
Businesses and government bodies must take reasonable steps to stop discrimination and sexual harassment.
The QHRC commissioner can force people to provide documents or attend hearings during investigations.
Fines of up to 100 penalty units apply for ignoring a direction from the commissioner.
