Effects of this bill
If this bill passes, it means that:
Sellers of E10 fuel must ensure it contains at least 9% ethanol.
Sellers of other petrol-biobased blends must ensure they contain at least 1% ethanol.
Sellers of diesel-biobased blends must ensure they contain at least 2% biodiesel.
Sellers of E10 fuel must follow specific octane rating and labelling rules.
Fines go up for people who fail to meet sustainable biobased petrol and diesel requirements.
Fuel wholesalers cannot avoid biofuels obligations through transactional arrangements.
People charged with biofuels offences can use a due diligence defence.
This defence requires proof that the person maintained a compliance system and took all reasonable steps.
