Effects of this bill
If this bill passes, it means that:
The Commission can force government agencies and local governments to hand over documents for inquiries.
Agencies can refuse if the information is legally privileged or would hurt a criminal investigation.
Commissioners must tell the Minister about any financial or personal conflicts of interest.
Commissioners are disqualified if they are insolvent or have an indictable conviction.
It is a criminal offence for commissioners to hide an indictable conviction from the Minister.
Fines apply for leaking confidential information or criminal history data.
The Commission cannot publish its own research unless the Minister approves the proposal.
