Effects of this bill
If this bill passes, it means that:
The Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) can report on corruption matters to the public.
The CCC must consider public benefit and the seriousness of the matter before reporting.
The CCC cannot state whether a person is corrupt or should be prosecuted.
The CCC must give a person a draft report if it contains adverse comments about them.
People can ask the CCC or the Supreme Court for more time to respond to draft reports.
It is a criminal offence to share restricted draft reports or evidence.
The CCC cannot include recommendations in public statements unless they are in a tabled report.
Past reports and statements made before 13 September 2023 are confirmed as valid.
