Effects of this bill

If this bill passes, it means that:

The Police Commissioner can publish photos and details of reportable offenders on a website if they break reporting rules and their location is unknown.
The Police Commissioner can give a reportable offender's photo to people living in the same area.
The Police Commissioner can tell parents or guardians if a person is a reportable offender if that person has unsupervised contact with a child.
The Police Commissioner cannot disclose details for offenders who were children when they committed their crime or have specific court protections.
It is a criminal offence to publicly intimidate or harass a person believed to be an identified offender.
It is a criminal offence to publish identifying information about these offenders without the Police Commissioner's written approval.
Courts cannot review or set aside disclosure decisions unless the Supreme Court finds a jurisdictional error.
