Effects of this bill
If this bill passes, it means that:
The Governor can appoint a Chief Judge and one or more Deputy Chief Judges for the District Court.
Deputy Chief Judges are appointed for five years; they can be reappointed.
The Chief Judge and Deputy Chief Judges can issue directions to other judges to keep court business moving efficiently.
The Chief Judge's directions override those of a Deputy Chief Judge if they conflict.
The District Court can now appoint multiple Judicial Registrars at once.
A Chief Judge can resign from their leadership role with the Governor's approval; they can remain a judge of the court.
