Law

Effects of this bill

If this bill passes, it means that:

The SafeWork Commissioner replaces the Secretary of the Department of Customer Service as the regulator.
A new SafeWork Advisory Council monitors emerging work health and safety risks; it advises the Commissioner on strategic priorities.
The Commissioner must consider the Council's advice when setting the strategic direction for SafeWork NSW.
Council members must disclose any financial or personal interests that conflict with their duties.
Members with a conflict of interest cannot join deliberations or decisions on that matter; the Minister can override this.
A member's seat becomes vacant if they resign; this also happens if they are convicted of a crime punishable by 12 months or more in prison.
