Transport Administration Amendment (Sydney Metro Governance) Bill 2025

The key features of the new governance framework are that there will no longer be a governing board overseeing the delivery and operation of Sydney Metro, the chief executive will be appointed by and report directly to the Minister for Transport, and the chief executive will be responsible for managing and controlling the affairs of Sydney Metro, in addition to its day-to-day management, subject to any directions issued by the Minister or by Transport for NSW. Those changes will ensure a more direct line of accountability and clearer reporting lines for Sydney Metro. Importantly, in order to ensure that Sydney Metro continues to have the benefit of industry and public sector expertise, the new governance framework also provides for the establishment of a Sydney Metro advisory board.
