Effects of this bill
If this bill passes, it means that:
The Secretary can manage the protection and recovery of personal identity information.
Approved fraud check users can ask the Secretary for information about whether an identity document is on the compromised ID register.
Approved fraud check users can ask the Secretary for information about whether an individual is dead.
Identity documents now include birth and death certificates issued by any State or Territory.
The Crown is bound by the Act.
