Effects of this bill

If this bill passes, it means that:

Private health facility licensees must have a midwife or registered nurse on duty whenever a patient is present
Licensees must appoint a director of nursing or midwifery to oversee patient care; vacancies must be filled within 7 days
Private health facility licensees must appoint a medical advisory committee with at least 5 medical practitioners
Fines of up to 1,000 penalty units apply for private health facility staffing or committee failures
Next of kin for potential tissue donors can appoint another person in writing to handle their powers
Official visitors for drug and alcohol treatment centres must include at least one medical professional or psychologist on every visit
Local health district boards must include at least one member who identifies as an Aboriginal person
