Effects of this bill

If this bill passes, it means that:

The Surveyor-General can now grant exemptions under the Surveying and Spatial Information Act 2002.
The GSF agency must provide reporting information instead of a full annual report.
The Cabinet Office replaces the Department of Premier and Cabinet for Class 6 authorised officers.
Annual reports can be signed off by any auditor; they no longer require a specific auditor.
The law updates local government area names for Mid-Coast and Port Macquarie-Hastings.

Statute Law (Miscellaneous Provisions) bills are necessary from time to time and are often introduced annually as a way to make minor legislative changes that do not raise substantive matters of policy.”

Schedule 1 to the bill contains policy changes of a minor and non-controversial nature. The schedule gives effect to proposals that are too inconsequential to warrant the introduction of a separate amending bill. The schedule contains amendments to 21 Acts and a related amendment to one instrument. Among the two amendments to the Interpretation Act 1987 are an amendment to clarify what is meant by references in legislation to the Minister administering another Act and to an amendment inserting a standard definition of "personally insolvent". The new definition removes the need for the term to be separately defined, where an Act or instrument does not already define the term, to ensure consistency and certainty in the interpretation of the term across the statute book.
