Rural Fires Amendment (Red Fleet) Bill 2024

This bill seeks to amend the Rural Fires Act by simply inserting five words only: "is vested in the commissioner". It transfers ownership of all Rural Fire Service assets from local councils, which the Act’s provisions from 1997 stipulate, to the State Government, where it should be, to make sure that RFS assets are treated consistently, in the same manner in which assets of other emergency services are treated: being on the balance sheet and the books of the State Government and depreciated in the appropriate way by the State Government because they are State Government assets.
