Roads and Crimes Legislation Amendment (Offences Repeal) Bill 2024

Ms KOBI SHETTY, Member for Balmain — 2024-10-17

The bill seeks to amend both the Roads Act and the Crimes Act to repeal several offences in relation to protest activities. In short, schedule 1 to the bill will amend the Roads Act to abolish the offence for a person to enter, remain on or otherwise trespass on a major road if the conduct causes damage or seriously disrupts or obstructs vehicles or pedestrians attempting to use the road. Schedule 3 to the bill amends the Crimes Act to abolish the existing offence for a person to enter, remain on or near, or otherwise trespass on or block entry to any part of a major facility. Schedules 2 and 4 make other incidental amendments to the respective Acts.
