Effects of this bill
If this bill passes, it means that:
The Local Court can now fine people up to 1,000 penalty units for radiation offences; this is up from 200 penalty units.
People must follow the Code for the Safe Transport of Radioactive Material when moving radioactive substances.
People cannot dispose of radiation apparatus unless specific conditions are met.
People dealing with regulated material have more obligations regarding how they transport and dispose of that material.
The CEO of the Authority takes over certain roles regarding the Council from the Minister.
The Radiation Control Act 1990 is renamed the Protection from Harmful Radiation Act 1990.
