Effects of this bill
If this bill passes, it means that:
Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries must give the Secretary of the Cabinet Office a summary of relevant meetings every quarter.
The summary must be provided within one month after the quarter ends.
Relevant meetings include any discussion with an external person about portfolio or Cabinet matters.
Summaries must list the purpose of the meeting; the names of attendees; and whether attendees were lobbyists.
The Secretary of the Cabinet Office must publish these summaries on the Cabinet Office website.
Ministers do not have to report meetings that are purely personal, electorate, or party political.
Reporting is not required for meetings held overseas; social functions; or meetings where disclosure harms the public interest.
