“As the Minister representing the Minister for Energy, I contribute to the debate on the Electricity Infrastructure Investment Amendment (Tender Moratorium) Bill 2024. The Government does not support the bill as it will slow down the delivery of the New South Wales Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap, also known as the road map, which is a strategic priority of the Government.”

Electricity Infrastructure Investment Amendment (Tender Moratorium) Bill 2024
Mr ROY BUTLER, Member for Barwon — 2024-06-21
This bill requires a resolution by this House to form a parliamentary committee of the Legislative Assembly or a joint committee of the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council. It sets out that the Consumer Trustee, the Australian Energy Market Operator, cannot conduct a competitive tender until an inquiry is conducted and a report is tabled in each House of Parliament. The parliamentary committee must inquire into the operation of the EII Act, site selection, impacts on agriculture and business and the adequacy of regional community consultation. The inquiry must happen as soon as possible, and a report must be tabled. Only when that report is tabled can we proceed with LTESA tenders.
