Effects of this bill
If this bill passes, it means that:
Election officials must ask every person claiming to vote for a current identification document
Officials must reject a person's claim to vote if they fail or refuse to show ID
Absent voters must show a current identification document to apply to vote
Officials must reject an absent voter's application if they fail or refuse to show ID
People making a provisional vote declaration must show a current identification document
Officials must not ask for ID if the person is a silent elector; this applies to absent silent electors too
The Electoral Commissioner must keep the electronic roll on a networked system so officials can record when ballot papers are issued
