Effects of this bill
If this bill passes, it means that:
People can face 14 years in prison for committing or authorising animal sexual abuse.
Prison time increases to 20 years if the abuse is committed with other people.
Selling, buying, or advertising animals for sexual abuse carries a maximum 5-year prison term; fines can reach 2,500 penalty units.
Attempting to commit animal sexual abuse carries a maximum 5-year prison term.
People charged with or convicted of these offences are banned from NDIS worker checks.
These offenders are disqualified from working with exhibited animals; they cannot apply for certain child protection working orders.
