Effects of this bill

If this bill passes, it means that:

The Act now applies to children and young persons present in New South Wales; it also applies to those with a sufficient connection to the state.
The law can now apply to children who do not live in or visit New South Wales (extraterritorial application).
Courts can decide if a child has a sufficient connection to New South Wales by looking at family ties; they can also consider school attendance or plans to return to the state.
The law validates court orders made before this Act started; it does the same for other official functions exercised under the Act.
