Effects of this bill
If this bill passes, it means that:
Inspectors can enter and inspect common property in strata or community schemes to conduct investigations.
Authorised persons can cut open or demolish residential building work if they suspect an offence.
Authorised officers can seize building products; they must provide a written receipt.
The Secretary can order that seized building products be forfeited to the government.
The Secretary can force people in the building supply chain to share safety notices; they can also require a person to show cause why they should be allowed to keep supplying products.
People given a stop work order can appeal to the Tribunal within 30 days.
Fines for offences jump to 3,000 penalty units for corporations; other people face 1,000 penalty units.
