Effects of this bill

If this bill passes, it means that:

Accused people charged with serious domestic violence offences must show cause why they should be granted bail.
Bail authorities must order electronic monitoring for these offenders; they can only waive this if it is in the interests of justice.
Courts can pause a bail release decision for up to 3 days to allow for a Supreme Court application.
Bail authorities must consider the victim's views and any history of domestic abuse when assessing bail.
Bail authorities can make electronic monitoring a requirement before a person is released.
Prosecutors no longer need the Attorney General's written consent to charge someone with using a tracking device in domestic violence cases.
These new bail rules apply to offences committed before the law changed.
