If this bill passes, it means that:
The animal research authority cannot authorise forced smoke inhalation experiments; it cannot authorise forced swim tests.
Forced smoke inhalation experiments include using restraints to pump smoke, e-cigarette vapour, or cigar smoke into an animal's nose or head.
Forced swim tests involve placing an animal in water where it cannot escape or stand; this does not apply to research that improves animal welfare.
Existing research authorities remain valid for these tests; the ban applies once those authorities are renewed.
