Effects of this bill

If this bill passes, it means that:

Landlords cannot increase rent for two years from the start date.
Rent increases payable on or after 30 June 2023 have no effect.
New agreements entered on or after 30 June 2023 must not exceed the rent paid on that date; otherwise, rent must not exceed the March 2023 median rent for that dwelling type and postcode.
Landlords or agents face fines of up to 50 penalty units for individuals or 100 for others if they illegally increase rent.
The minister must review these rent limits within one year.
The minister must table a report on the review in parliament within six months of its completion.
