Effects of this bill
If this bill passes, it means that:
Sydney Water and Hunter Water cannot be sold or disposed of; this must not happen unless a new Act of Parliament allows it.
Water corporations can still sell assets in the ordinary course of business; this is allowed if the main undertakings stay in public ownership.
Selling an asset necessary for a water corporation to perform its principal functions counts as selling a main undertaking.
The Constitution Act 1902 prevails over the State Owned Corporations Act 1989 if the two laws conflict.
