Effects of this bill

If this bill passes, it means that:

The Parliament of Victoria is banned from changing or removing laws that allow abortions up to 24 weeks, or abortions after 24 weeks in certain cases.
The Parliament of Victoria is banned from changing laws that allow registered pharmacists and nurses to supply abortion drugs, or laws regarding the supply of these drugs in hospitals.
The Parliament of Victoria is banned from removing the legal duty for health practitioners to refer patients to other providers if they conscientiously object to performing an abortion, or their duty to provide emergency life-preserving care.
The Parliament of Victoria can only make technical or editorial changes to these abortion laws, such as fixing typos or renaming entities, as long as the meaning of the law does not change.
The Parliament of Victoria must follow specific constitutional requirements to alter the parts of the state constitution that now protect these abortion laws.
