Effects of this bill

If this bill passes, it means that:

The Health Insurance (Pathology - Fees) Act 1991 and its related Norfolk Island amendment are abolished.
The Commonwealth must refund fees paid under the abolished pathology fees law if the undertaking or premises approval starts on or after 1 July 2025.
If the Health Minister accepts a person's undertaking, the Health Minister must give them a notice. This notice must state when the undertaking starts, how long it lasts, and how to apply for a review through the Administrative Review Tribunal.
The Health Minister can now approve or refuse a written application to have premises accredited as a pathology laboratory. If the Health Minister approves the premises, they must give a copy of the approval to the applicant.
