Effects of this bill

If this bill passes, it means that:

The Health Minister must now give a written notice to pathology practitioners and pathology authorities when accepting their undertakings. This notice must state when the undertaking starts, how long it lasts, and how to apply to the Administrative Review Tribunal for a review of that period.
The Health Minister must give a copy of the approval to anyone whose premises are approved as an accredited pathology laboratory.
Pathology practitioners, pathology authorities, and accredited pathology laboratories no longer have to pay acceptance or accreditation fees.
The Commonwealth must refund fees paid under the old pathology fees laws if the undertaking or laboratory approval starts on or after 1 July 2025.
The laws that previously set the fees for pathology services are abolished.
