Effects of this bill
If this bill passes, it means that:
The Westport Authority is established as a state agency to plan and build a container terminal at the Port of Fremantle.
Directors and executives of the Authority face fines if they fail to act with reasonable care; diligence; or good faith.
Executives can face five years in prison and a $20,000 fine for using their position to gain an advantage or cause detriment to the Authority.
Providing false or misleading information to officials can lead to one year in prison and a $5,000 fine.
The Authority and its subsidiaries are banned from providing loans; guarantees; or security to directors; CEOs; or their relatives.
The Minister and Treasurer can compel the Authority to provide documents; information; and access to staff.
Public authorities must consult the Authority before starting works that may impact the Westport footprint.
