Effects of this bill

If this bill passes, it means that:

The Commonwealth establishes the Whistleblower Protection Authority.
A Commissioner and Deputy Commissioners are appointed to manage the Authority.
People making a disclosure or request can choose to be kept informed about the progress or outcome.
Public officials must refer whistleblower protection issues to the appropriate authority.
People subject to the Act must keep information handled under the Act confidential.
The Commonwealth establishes the Whistleblower Protection Advisory Council.
Parliament establishes the Parliamentary Joint Committee on the Whistleblower Protection Authority.
