If this bill passes, it means that:
Employers of firefighters and paramedics must pay a higher charge percentage for superannuation guarantee shortfalls.
The charge percentage increases by 4.4 for the relevant quarter.
The higher rate applies to employees who work as firefighters or paramedics for any part of the quarter.
The new calculations apply to quarters beginning on or after 1 July 2025.
Firefighter employees are those employed as firefighters or whose primary duties involve extinguishing or preventing fires.
Paramedic employees are those employed as paramedics or whose primary duties involve emergency medical transport and care outside permanent healthcare facilities.
