Effects of this bill
If this bill passes, it means that:
People can enrol to vote from age 14.
The voting age for elections and referendums drops to 16.
People who are not enrolled can cast a provisional vote on polling day; they must provide a claim for enrolment and identity evidence.
Accepted identity evidence includes a driver's licence, Australian passport, or an approved attestation signed by an enrolled person.
A provisional vote cast by someone entitled to enrolment counts as a formal claim to enrol.
