Effects of this bill
If this bill passes, it means that:
The Australian Capital Territory and Northern Territory must be represented in the Senate by senators chosen by the people voting as one electorate.
The number of senators for the Australian Capital Territory and Northern Territory is half the number of senators for a State; this number is rounded to the nearest whole number.
Senators for the Australian Capital Territory and Northern Territory follow the same election timing as State senators.
Senators for other Territories start their term on election day; their term ends the day before the next general election.
Elections for other Territories must happen at the same time as each general election.
