Effects of this bill

If this bill passes, it means that:

The Minister must appoint a Judge to lead an inquiry into antisemitism at Australian universities.
The Commissioner must investigate antisemitic activity on campuses; this includes harassment, violence, and support for terrorist organisations.
The Commissioner must check if universities have used appropriate definitions of antisemitism; they must also review campus security and course materials.
The Commissioner can hold hearings inside or outside Australia.
The Commission of inquiry has the same powers and offences as a Royal Commission.
Department employees can disclose personal information to help the inquiry; this disclosure is authorised by law.
The Commissioner must recommend whether the government needs new laws, sanctions, or intervention powers to tackle antisemitism.
