Effects of this bill
If this bill passes, it means that:
The Primary Industries Minister must review the interest rates on loans made under the Rural Industry Adjustment and Development Act 1985.
This review applies to loans that are currently interest-free; it also applies to loans with rates lower than commercial rates.
The Primary Industries Minister can decide to increase the interest rate on these loans.
The new rate may be increased to a commercial rate.
The Debate
What different members said when this bill was debated:
“I move: That this bill be now read a second time. This is a short and targeted bill, but it has the potential to provide an important additional tool for South Australian primary producers facing significant structural challenges.”
