Effects of this bill
If this bill passes, it means that:
Employers in the hairdressing, beauty, accommodation and food services industries are temporarily exempt from portable long service leave obligations.
The minister can only end this exemption after an independent party conducts a review.
The reviewer cannot be a current or recent ACT Government employee; they cannot be an officer of a registered organisation or a peak industry body.
The minister must not end the exemption if the review finds that portable long service leave would harm business viability or employment in the ACT.
The exemption cannot end before 1 July 2027.
The minister must table the review and a statement of reasons in the Legislative Assembly before ending the exemption.
