Effects of this bill
If this bill passes, it means that:
The Minister can order fuel sellers to provide information on fuel production, supply, use or consumption; this helps the Minister decide on fuel restriction schemes.
Inspectors can order people subject to fuel restrictions to provide details on the types and quantities of fuel they hold or sell.
Failing to comply with an information notice from the Minister or an inspector is a strict liability offence; the maximum penalty is 50 penalty units.
Offences against the Fair Trading (Fuel Prices) Act are now strict liability offences.
People exercising functions under the Fuels Rationing Act commit an offence if they recklessly use or disclose protected information about others.
People can withhold protected information from a court; this applies unless another ACT law requires disclosure.
