Effects of this bill

If this bill passes, it means that:

People subject to a firearm prohibition order must not acquire, possess or use firearms or firearm-related items.
Possessing or using a firearm while under a prohibition order carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.
People under a prohibition order face up to 5 years in prison for failing to surrender their firearms, licences or permits.
It is a criminal offence to give or dispose of a firearm to someone known to be subject to a prohibition order.
Police can stop, detain and search people subject to a prohibition order to seize firearms.
Police can enter and search a person's home, vehicle or other premises without a warrant if they suspect the person is breaking a prohibition order.
