Effects of this bill
If this bill passes, it means that:
Business operators and employee unions can apply for workplace protection orders.
The Magistrates' Court or Children's Court can issue orders to restrict people who commit physical or sexual violence and abuse at work.
Orders can ban a person from entering a workplace; they can also ban a person from using specific trains, trams or buses.
Employee unions must notify affected business operators at least 5 days before a hearing; they must also provide a copy of the final order.
The court registrar must give copies of all orders to the Chief Commissioner of Police.
Children cannot give evidence in these proceedings unless the court gives permission.
The court can change or cancel an order if the respondent or the applicant asks in writing.
