Effects of this bill
If this bill passes, it means that:
Commonwealth procurement must support Australian industry capability; it must support sovereign resilience and local manufacturing jobs.
Tenders for Commonwealth projects covered by these rules must give domestic manufacturers opportunities to be considered before non-domestic manufacturers.
At least 30% of the total value of goods used in Commonwealth projects covered by these rules must be domestically manufactured products.
Rules for these domestic requirements must include limited and transparent exemptions.
Commonwealth procurement rules must now support Australian industry, local manufacturing jobs, and national resilience.
For Commonwealth projects covered by these rules, domestic manufacturers must be given opportunities to be considered before overseas manufacturers when bidding for work.
At least 30% of the total value of goods used in Commonwealth projects covered by these rules must be products made in Australia.
The government can grant limited and transparent exemptions to the rules about domestic preference and the 30% local product requirement.
