Effects of this bill

If this bill passes, it means that:

Publishers must label electoral and referendum matter that is substantially AI-generated with the words "AI-generated content".
Labels on images must cover at least 10% of the image; audio must include the spoken words "AI-generated content".
People who control an electoral AI agent are treated as the publisher of any electoral matter that agent publishes.
Authorisers of electoral or referendum matter face civil penalties of 1,000 penalty units for failing to label AI content.
Authorisers face civil penalties of 1,000 penalty units if electoral matter is inconsistent with the Ethical Political Advertising Code.
The Political Advertising Standards Board can order authorisers to retract, correct, or remove matter after an investigation.
Criminal offences and fines of 50 penalty units apply to people who breach specific electoral requirements.
